Two‑Factor Authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of protection to your OwlCloudHost account by requiring a second verification step during login. Even if someone gets your password, they cannot access your account without your 2FA code. This is one of the most important security features you can enable.
2FA protects your account by requiring two things:
Something you know — your password
Something you have — a one‑time code from your device
This prevents unauthorized access, even if your password is compromised.
OwlCloudHost supports industry‑standard authentication apps, including:
Google Authenticator
Authy
Microsoft Authenticator
1Password / Bitwarden built‑in authenticators
These apps generate a new 6‑digit code every 30 seconds.
You can turn on 2FA from your account settings.
Steps:
Open Account Settings
Go to Security
Select Two‑Factor Authentication (2FA)
Click Enable 2FA
Scan the QR code using your authenticator app
Enter the 6‑digit code generated by the app
Save your changes
Your account will now require a 2FA code every time you log in.
When you enable 2FA, you will receive backup codes.
Store them in a safe place
Each code can be used once
Use them only if you lose access to your authenticator app
Backup codes ensure you never get locked out of your account.
If you get a new phone:
Disable 2FA temporarily
Re‑enable it using your new device
Or transfer your authenticator app (if supported)
This keeps your login secure and uninterrupted.
If you lose your device and don’t have backup codes:
You can request account recovery
You will need to verify your identity
Support will help restore access safely
Your account remains protected during this process.
To keep your account safe:
Use a strong, unique password
Keep 2FA enabled at all times
Store backup codes offline
Review your active sessions regularly
Log out of devices you no longer use
These steps ensure maximum protection for your files and personal data.
