A file may appear missing for several reasons, including accidental deletion, moving it to another folder, link expiration, or account‑level changes. This guide helps you understand the most common causes and how to locate or recover your file.
Start by using the search bar in your dashboard.
Try searching the exact file name
Search partial names or keywords
Check for spelling differences or renamed files
If the file appears in search results, it may simply be in a different folder.
Files can be moved accidentally.
Look inside recently used folders
Check shared folders if you collaborate with others
Review your “Recent Files” section
Sort by “Last Modified” to see if the file was moved or updated
If the file was moved, you can relocate it back to your preferred folder.
If a file was removed, it will appear in Trash until permanently deleted.
Open Trash from the sidebar
Look for the missing file
Restore it if it’s still available
Files permanently deleted from Trash cannot be recovered.
If you’re accessing the file through a public link:
The link may have been disabled
The file owner may have removed download or view permissions
The link may have expired
The file may have been deleted by the owner
If you don’t own the file, you’ll need to request access again.
If someone shared the file with you:
The owner may have revoked access
The file may have been moved to a private folder
The owner may have deleted the file
Shared access changes will remove the file from your dashboard.
If your account reached its storage limit:
New uploads may fail
Some files may not appear until space is freed
Upload attempts may create partial or incomplete files
Freeing storage space can resolve missing or incomplete uploads.
If the file never finished uploading:
It will not appear in your dashboard
Large files may fail on unstable connections
Try re‑uploading the file
Check your upload history if available
If the upload failed, the file was never stored.
Occasionally, files may not appear due to temporary loading issues.
Refresh the page
Sign out and sign back in
Try another browser or device
If the file reappears, the issue was temporary.
