Importing allows you to save files from public links directly into your OwlCloudHost account without downloading them first. This feature is useful when someone shares a file with you or when you want to quickly add content from another device or user. This guide explains how importing works, why it may fail, and how to resolve common issues.
Importing copies a file from a public link into your own storage.
The file is added to your account instantly
You don’t need to download the file first
The original file remains unchanged
The imported file becomes fully yours (you can rename, move, or delete it)
Importing is available only when the file owner has enabled Import permissions.
To import a file successfully:
The public link must be active
The file owner must allow Import
The file must still exist in the owner’s account
You must be logged into your OwlCloudHost account
You must have enough storage space
If any of these conditions fail, the import will not complete.
Imported files are saved to your root directory by default.
You can move them to any folder afterward
Imported files behave exactly like your own uploads
They count toward your storage usage
If you don’t see the file immediately, refresh your dashboard.
Several issues can prevent a file from importing:
The link owner disabled imports
The link expired
The file was deleted or moved
Your account is out of storage
You are not logged in
Your browser blocked the import action
The file is too large for your plan
Testing with a smaller file can help identify size-related issues.
If the import button doesn’t respond:
Try Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari
Disable extensions that block scripts
Make sure your browser is updated
If importing works elsewhere, the issue is browser-related.
Temporary loading issues can cause the import button to fail.
Refresh the page
Close and reopen the link
Sign out and sign back in
This resolves most short-term issues.
If importing fails even when all conditions are met, the support team can help.
